HISTORICAL ARCHIVE AND MINING MUSEUM A.C.
It is a cultural institution that, since its creation in 1987, it has been dedicated to the study, rescue, conservation, reuse and awareness of the industrial heritage of the Mining District of Real del Monte and Pachuca, in the state of Hidalgo, Mexico
Currently, it houses a historical archive (1727-1985), a newspaper archive, library, photographic library and four mining museums. Consulting its documentary assets allows us to study the importance, scope and development of mining activities in this region.
The AHMMAC offers an invaluable opportunity to come closer to the historical and cultural heritage of the Mining District, through its cultural tourism proposal called “Silver Route” and its 4 site museums. Visiting them is an experience that, besides providing a learning adventure, teaches experientially about testimonies and emblematic mining activity sites throughout their history.
MISSION
Research, rescue, preserve, give value to, and promote industrial heritage while contributing to the historical knowledge of one of the oldest mining districts of Mexico, in order to maintain its identity and, this way, to contribute to the present cultural, touristic and, hence, economic development of Real del Monte and Pachuca, Hidalgo, ensuring its heritage legacy for the future.
VISION
Strengthen the Real del Monte and Pachuca region as the starting point to conduct mining industrial heritage work in Mexico, thanks to the recovery of its historic memory: written, graphic and oral heritage. As well as the recovery of mining complexes: buildings, machinery, tools and equipment.
Share the dream of valuing the identity of these mining towns, their history and heritage sites; the culture of men and women who have brought these places to life throughout centuries.
VALUES
Respect and consistency regarding the historical and cultural heritage that has been inherited from this industry and it is invaluable for the region.
Honesty to manage the historical, material and economic heritage.
We do not invent our history, we study it, supporting the researcher and the general public that request services from the AHMMAC, while respecting visitors by giving them knowledge.
COLLABORATORS
The work team is integrated by an interdisciplinary group of professionals, specialized in the study and recovery of mining industrial heritage: their task is to conserve it, and to create awareness about its importance, as well as to contribute to increase the knowledge of the documentary collection kept in the institution. A group of retired miners and some of their descendants are also part of the team sharing their experiences with visitors.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
The work of the AHMMAC has been possible thanks to its Board of Directors who have relied on the work team, to the support of the Real del Monte and Pachuca, S.A. Company which has donated the historical heritage kept by this civil association, to Altos Hornos de México, S.A., and the institutions that, at certain moment, have awarded us grants for specific projects presented at the archive areas, museum and exhibitions.
